Candy Kingdom Defense Evolution Guide

Checked

Evolve Jake first if waves leak. Evolve Marceline Beast first if waves are stable and the boss keeps walking out. Both recipes cost 10 personal items, 5 Enchiridion Pages and 1,000 gems.

Pick the unit by the job that is failing

What is failing Evolve Why this one first
Small enemies leak through Jake → Alien Jake Alien Jake pulls groups together and stops them; the black hole is the strongest wave-control tool in the documented set
Waves are stable, boss survives Marceline → Marceline Beast Drink the Red is a 40,000 single-target burst; it converts a line clearer into a boss killer
Both are failing Jake first You must reach the boss before boss damage matters. Fix the leak, then build the boss killer
Marceline is your only line clear Do not evolve her yet Marceline Beast loses the line clear. Have Alien Jake, Princess Bubblegum or Lemongrab ready first
You already own The Lich The Lich → Jake Lich Full-area control with a one-placement cap; optional, not a replacement for a boss killer
You own Finn, BMO, Bubblegum, Lemongrab or Rainicorn See the recipe table These evolutions exist, but the documented set does not compare their combat performance

Finn → Adult Finn and Lady Rainicorn → Prism Queen Rainicorn are named in the official description. Their recipes are known; their damage comparison is not. Do not treat their existence as proof that they are better than Jake or Marceline.

The 10 / 5 / 1,000 totals come from captured recipe previews and one completed Marceline run. Five previews show the same totals; that is strong evidence, not a rule for every hero. Open your own EVOLVE panel before farming.

An earlier recording showed a 0/40 field on the same screen. It does not match the 5-page recipe preview. Treat your own panel as the authority.

Read your inventory like a shopping list

The recipe screen shows owned / required, not owned alone. A captured Jake preview read:

  • 1 / 10 Sandwiches
  • 0 / 5 Enchiridion Pages
  • 225 / 1,000 Gems

That is a gap of 9 Sandwiches, 5 Pages and 775 gems.

The farming math follows directly:

  • 9 more Ice King's Wrath runs give 9 Sandwiches and 450 gems.
  • 5 Dungeon Train challenge wins give 5 Pages.
  • The runs cover 450 of the 775 missing gems; the remaining 325 come from level rewards, codes or other play.

Do not subtract the 50-gem replay reward twice. It is a reward for the run, not a cost.

Farm the missing item

  1. Open EVOLVE and select the base hero.
  2. Read the three owned / required lines. Write down the gaps.
  3. For the personal item, open PLAY, choose the named world and select its Act 5 card.
  4. Repeat that Act 5 stage. Each replay lists 50 gems and one personal item.
  5. For Enchiridion Pages, enter the Dungeon Train challenge entrance. The menu lists one Page per Challenge win.
  6. Re-open the recipe after each session and subtract only what the panel adds.

If a GO THERE button appears beside a missing item, use it. It opens the destination the game itself associates with that item.

Complete the evolution

  1. Return to the Tree Fort and open the Enchiridion Shrine / EVOLVE panel.
  2. Select the correct base hero.
  3. Confirm all three counts are full and the EVOLVE button is no longer grey.
  4. Check the hero's level and trait before confirming. The menu states that level, XP and trait are kept.
  5. Confirm and read the success message before closing it.

If the button stays grey, check the selected hero, the personal item count, the Page count and the gem count. Do not assume one missing currency.

What evolution keeps, and what it does not

The menu states that evolution keeps the hero's level, XP and trait. A completed Marceline run kept level 50 and Radical.

The menu does not mention stat grades. Letter grades are a separate system with their own currency. Do not spend Juice on a Z-grade roll immediately before evolving; wait until the grade rule is confirmed.

The three costly mistakes

  1. Evolving Marceline when she is your only line clear. You trade wave control for boss damage and then leak every wave. Have a replacement clearer first.
  2. Farming the wrong stage. Pages do not come from Act 5. They come from Dungeon Train challenge wins.
  3. Assuming every hero costs 10 / 5 / 1,000. Five previews and one completed run show it; open your own recipe before spending.

You evolved and now the team leaks

There is no documented downgrade. Put the evolved unit on boss duty and move a different unit into the line-clear slot. If you have no replacement, stop investing in the evolved form and rebuild the missing role with a summon or a different hero.

What to do next

If the leak is fixed and the boss still survives, open the Marceline recipe. If the boss is fixed and waves still leak, keep Alien Jake and add area damage around him. If you are short on gems, claim the level rewards before farming more Act 5.
