Two layers: spawning a portal and clearing it
Layer one: every 10 Infinite waves has a 30% portal chance. Layer two: the portal is a separate fight, and clearing it guarantees one Lich Ooze with a 5% Lich chance.
The official FAQ states both numbers. It does not state a pity counter, a guaranteed portal, or how many Ooze a clear drops beyond "one item".
What 20 portals actually mean
At the listed 5% rate, the model is:
- Expected portals for one Lich: 20.
- Chance of at least one Lich in 20 clears: 64.2%.
- Chance in 50 clears: 92.3%.
- 90% needs 45 clears; 95% needs 59.
Spawning those portals is the expensive part. One portal averages 10 / 0.30 = 33.3 waves, so 20 portals average about 667 survived waves across runs. That number assumes every portal is cleared and every run reaches the check. Neither assumption is confirmed.
A dry streak is not evidence of a bug. After 50 clears, about 7.7% of players would still have no Lich.
The run loop
- Enter Infinite Mode with a team that can clear at least 10 waves reliably.
- Watch for the portal after the 10-wave check.
- Open the portal from the Tree Fort.
- Clear the portal fight.
- Collect the Ooze and repeat from wave 1 of a new run.
The portal is a separate fight, not a bonus wave inside the same run.
Rules the game has not confirmed
| Question | Current status |
|---|---|
| Best wave to sell units for more portals | One player says 31; no controlled test |
| Leaving Infinite early | Payout rules are not documented |
| Who gets the drop in a group portal | Group reports conflict; ownership is not confirmed |
| Ooze per clear | FAQ implies one; the item count on the reward screen is the check |
| Pity or bad-luck protection | Not mentioned by the official FAQ |
Use the reward screen, not a video commentary, to confirm the Ooze count.
Lich and Jake Lich stats
Captured at level 50 with unknown trait state:
- The Lich: Extinction 6,800 damage, 54 range, 2-second stun, one placement.
- Jake Lich: 20,000 damage, 56 range, 6.1 attack interval, one placement.
The values are not normalised against other units and should not be used to rank raw DPS.
Is the grind worth it
- For collection: the Lich is a Secret with a one-placement cap. Budget portals, not sessions.
- For control: Jake Lich covers a full area and stuns; the one-placement cap makes it a complement, not a solo plan.
- For boss damage: Marceline Beast is the documented single-target pick; Lich is not a replacement.
If you only need the Ooze to finish an evolution, count the Ooze requirement first. If the panel's 10/10 refers to Lich units rather than Ooze, the budget changes by an order of magnitude and the planner cannot answer it until the item label is confirmed.
No portal after 70 waves
If no portal appeared, you may have missed the 10-wave check or the portal may have spawned after the run ended. Clear 10 waves at a time and check the Tree Fort. Do not extend a run past the point where your team can survive.
